Sukhum Artwork and Story on PBS Pamela Sukhum and 'The Beautiful Project' article in Art Business News: click here to read Three years ago, Pam Sukhum traded her lab coat in for a painter's smock. Until then she had worked both as a scientist (concentration in cardiovascular care) and at nights, as an undercover artist (concentration also in matters of the heart). As a Thai-American, Artist/Scientist her life has been one of contradictions and dualistic experiences that translate themselves into her paintings. A memory, thought, or experience ignites an idea. Pam begins her paintings by creating chaos with a rapid finger-painting for a base layer. She then orders the chaos by going in with meticulous and deliberate brushstrokes. Finally, she seek to integrate the work by visually reconciling the paradox that began in her mind. This process of creating and then "ordering" disorder temporarily shifts perception and frees different possibilities and realities to challenge existing concepts, expand awareness and redefine her sense of self. This space is what she wishes to invite others into. Displayed in galleries alongside the works of Warhol, Lichtenstein, Haring, Miro and Ruscha, Pamela Sukhum's work speaks for itself. Her staggering success, ever increasing popularity and notoriety, and unique style has her labeled as one of the top artists to collect in the US. Bold beautiful colors, magnificent textures, sweeping brushstrokes and an intelligent creativity, culminate in timeless works, which continually fascinate the eye with each additional viewing. |
