GALLERY - EAST MEETS WEST
The following body of work is influenced by traditional Chinese brush painting, the art of Sumi-e, both in theme and materials. The subject matter is a portrayal of nature, which delights the viewer, allowing moments of reverie and contemplation. The resulting work is a stunning fusion of East meets West. Ashley Coll creates a background using Chinese inks and watercolor on rice paper. The rice paper is adhered to and supported by either canvas or archival paper. The painting is then finished in Chinese paints or acrylic.
